Chapt 8- Part 6

Jane woke up the next day and went down to the theater. John drove down with his new/old truck. John reviewed his lines in his head. Jane was more concerned about getting there. Jane finally got there and John was already there. Jane went over to Julianne and said,
"I'm sorry I missed rehearsal yesterday; I had to do something."
"That is ok. We weren't going to do much anyway."
"Thank you."
Jane then made her way to Lara. She said she was sorry that she has been sulking. Then John passed them and waved at both of them.
"You and John are together?" Lara asked.
"No, we're friends. We are taking baby steps this time around."
"Oh, I see. So what happened to you? Why are so happy?"
"Well, if you must know, I talked to my dad. Don't get worried because it wasn't anything bad. We actually had a talk. Without him being drunk. We sorted out many things. I told him that we can try to talk more tomorrow over at my apartment."
"Wow! I am so surprised! What made you want to talk to him?"
"John gave me some advice. For once, I decided to follow it."
"What did he tell you?"
"He told me to move on. You know what surprised me?"
"What?"
"He told me I had this wall up that kept him away from me but when all that happened, I realized he wasn't scared of the wall."
"Nothing. He just hated seeing me hurt."
"Then why did he even talk to you?"
"Truthfully, I don't think he was talking to me, I think he was trying to climb over the wall."
Lara looked at Jane funny but Jane didn't look at her. Jane was to busy looking at John. Then she went over to John.
"John?"
"Yes, Jane."
"I have to tell you something."
"Then tell me."
He smiled. John wanted to see her smile like that again. When John saw her face, he knew his job was done. He waited for Jane while admiring her smile.
"John..."
Jane felt her face warm up. She knew what she wanted to say. It was on the tip of her tongue.
"Jane? Look, I am happy you're happy. For once everything is right. For now, let's be friends and get to know each other better."
"Uh...ok. But what about us?"
"We'll figure that out when the time comes."
"But--"
"John! Jane! We have to start rehearsal now!" Julianne called out.
John and Jane looked at each other for a second. They knew what they wanted. Sadly, they were scared. John put his hand on her face and said,
"I promise I won't leave this time."
Then he pulled his hand away and put it in front of her. They shook hands and went to stage. Jane and John were confused, happy, and sad all at the same time. They couldn't describe it but they didn't mind it. They simply smiled and did what they knew they did best together; perform.
