Chapt 8- Part 5
Surprisingly, after all of that, Jane told her dad to leave. She felt that she needed to think about everything. Jane couldn't help it. She knew that her dad's feelings were true but she needed to figure out a few things too. Jane finally got what John was saying. She pulled out her phone and called her mother.
"Hello? Jane?"
Jane was silent because she was shocked to hear her mother's voice. Any other time she tried to call her mom, her mother wouldn't pick up the phone or even ignore her call. Finally she answered,
"Mom, I am here."
"Oh my gosh! I was so worried about you! I heard your father came to visit you, drunk! Lara let me know. Are you okay? Did he do anything to you? Are you hurt?"
"I am fine. Me and dad--"
"What did he do?! You sound like you have been crying!"
"Mom! Calm down, I am fine! Me and dad talked. Nothing more, nothing less. I am fine. He seems so different then he was. He has been in rehab. He is doing great, mom. If he comes to visit you, don't be scared. He just wants to talk to you."
"That's impossible! Nobody ever changes! Especially your father! I wouldn't trust him if I were you!"
"I am going to trust him! You know why? After all these years, he kept his promise to change. You can keep him a safe distance away, if you want, but I'm not. I finally realized that I need to move on with my life instead of letting something hurt me, deep inside, for the rest of my life! I can't hold on anymore. The past is the past, mom. This might surprise you, but dad has changed. And for once, he didn't have to fake his feelings!"
"Jane--"
"I don't want to hear it mom! You know what makes him even better now than then? He actually came hear to do this than do it over the phone! I haven't talked to you for years! When I did, it was 'Hope you're having a great time at school!' and that was it. You never picked up your phone or you IGNORED my calls! At least dad had the decency to come here and fight and talk to me in person! So, I hope your happy. I don't know about you but I am moving on with my life."
It was silent. Jane's mother didn't say anything. Jane had a feeling that would happen. She knew her mother would have nothing to say because, even though she knew Jane was right, she couldn't let go. Jane simply said,
"Goodbye mom. I hope your happy living your life in the past. Call me when you decide to let go of it."
Then Jane hung up. For some reason, Jane didn't cry. She felt more like a huge weight lifted off her shoulders. She got what she wanted to say out. Not only to her mom, but to her dad too. She had finally moved on. What happened in her past, happened. She couldn't take it back. Jane was happy about that. It happened. Past tense. Things change and so do people. Now, Jane only had one thing on her mind and that was John.
